I recently did some exercises to figure out what my core values as a person are.
authenticity is one of them. That means any time I violate this I can expect to feel ashamed or stay awake at night endlessly trying to rationalize a decision.
Anytime a person or thing I see lacks this, i can expect to be triggered or disgusted so.... I feel ya.
"I’m tired of brands treating authenticity like the new marketing playbook when they don’t even know how to engage the people who make up their fanciest vanity metric."
^ great example of failing at being authentic... by being inauthentic.
In a broader (non-marketing) sense, to me, authenticity means holding true to myself under any circumstance. It also means staying genuine with others regardless of social pressure or expectations.
It does extend to my marketing work. I'm always working to be truthful, sincere, and transparent.
I can't say the same for 99.99999% of everything else on the internet ;-) But, I do see authentic high-performing content out there.
Fully agree, authenticity means a lot to me and your description of that value is spot on.
Feeling triggered or disgusted by lack of authenticity speaks directly to my soul. It's pretty hard for me look past it or at least hide my face as I cringe through it when it's apparent.
📣📣📣 Internet -- give us more authentic high performing content!!!
